Big changes start locally

There’s room for two more around the Virgin Money Foundation board table

Young People in a Board Room setting

What could you bring?

Are you young? Passionate about changing things? Do you agree with us that it shouldn’t always be the suited and booted who have the final say on how charitable funding is spent? We’d love you to attend the Virgin Money Foundation’s board meetings and help shape our thinking? In return you would receive a year’s mentoring and training with the possibility of becoming a trustee.

The Virgin Money Foundation is looking for two brilliant people aged between 18 and 27 to help organise our activities, develop our strategy and generally get on board.

Who are we?

The Virgin Money Foundation is all about making big change happen locally. We exist to support people who have the imagination, commitment and skill to change their communities for the better. We provide them with funding and any other resources we can mobilise - including the expertise of Virgin Money colleagues – to amplify the impact of their initiatives.

And our trustees?

Our trustees are a great bunch of volunteers who give up their valuable time to support the Virgin Money Foundation. They set our strategy and decide how we use our resources. They’re also responsible for the administration of the charity. They safeguard our funds and make sure we work efficiently and effectively.

What we need now

We want to introduce younger voices into our board, to give us greater insights into the communities we fund and the valuably different perspective of younger people. This will help us direct our grants to the places where they can deliver maximum benefits. Especially where we’re trying to help young change-makers, and organisations which support young people.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll meet with your fellow board members four times a year for an afternoon and evening. Once a year, you’ll have a strategy away-day. And you’ll need to commit to one extra sub-committee – usually on the same day as Board days. We’ll pick up your travel and accommodation expenses.

Before each board meeting, you’ll receive a Board Pack. You’ll need to set aside time to read it, so you can hit the ground running at the meeting.

You’ll join us for board meetings for up to a year. During this time, you’ll benefit from a training and mentoring package. You’ll learn new skills, such as how to review board paperwork, and learn through the contributions of others attending the Board. And then, if you’re successful after your year with us, and if you want to, we’ll invite you to become a trustee.

If you’ve never thought about becoming trustee, or have never set foot in a boardroom, but want to use your voice, insights and talents to change things for the better, we’d love to hear from you.

You can find out more about the role of trustee here.
