The Virgin Money Foundation is committed to providing support to the organisations we work with beyond the funding provided. We look to harness the skills within Virgin Money to support the strategic development of our charity partners or provide practical support to their beneficiaries.
Following the success of Virgin Money’s Strive2Thrive workshops with local schools and ex-servicemen we recently held the first Virgin Money Foundation Mini Strive with ten young people from South Tyneside Training and Enterprise Network (STEN).
The event focused on preparing young people for the world of work; looking at their skills and how they relate to key business functions, as well as exploring business culture. They were joined by volunteers from around the Virgin Money business including interns, apprentices and a team leader who joined the bank on leaving school.
The event was led by Beth Orford, from the Virgin Money HR team, who reflected that : “Some of the attendees are facing real challenges in their lives, and every one of them got something out of the day. We hoped to make them feel welcome and valued, give them some possible inspiration, and help them think about their skills and the world of work from a new angle. It’s fair to say the event was a success and they were literally buzzing when they left the building.”
Further events across a range of subjects will run throughout the year as part of our ' Funder Plus' activity, including more Foundation Mini Strive events. On July 22nd we will hold our first Social Media workshop with speakers from the Virgin Media Social Media Team and Virgin Money Giving.
