The Foundation provides a range of additional support that we call ‘beyond the grant’. This allows us to have a greater impact for our money. The support offered will differ for each organisation, depending on the needs.
“While the money we received was much needed, the additional support was of similar value to our organisation. Our Operations Manager found the training particularly useful. We’ve felt supported and almost part of a wider team,” said Steve Vasey, Cornerstone Supported Housing CEO.
The Foundation may put you in touch with a Virgin Money employee who can volunteer their time and share their skills. This could be a business mentor, a new Board member with the required expertise or someone to help develop your systems. In addition, we may be able to organise volunteers for specific events or tasks.
During grant assessments, you may ask us to consider funding a particular training need or development opportunity. Sometimes we can build this into your grant payment. The training provider, consultant or facilitator will need to be approved by the Foundation but the relationship will be yours to manage.
Colleagues from across Virgin Money are available to answer questions from funded organisations by email. You may have a question on software updates that we can forward to our IT experts. Or, we might be able to send a question about fixed-term contacts to HR. Ask away at firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Using the skills and experience of our Virgin Money colleagues, the Foundation offers workshops free of charge to our funded organisations. Classes will cover a range of topics - those already delivered include Supporting Youth Voice, Strive2Thrive and CV workshops for young people.
The Foundation runs several training programmes, some with the support of Virgin Money colleagues. These have included Social Media and Online Fundraising, Me as a Manager and Creative Thinking and Coaching Skills. Upcoming training includes Positive Leadership and Social Media and Digital Marketing.
GLT Partners hosted a series of masterclasses in 2018/9, including Growth, Delivering a Product or Service, Marketing, Finance, Investment, Measuring Social Impact and Investing in Yourself.
