Invitation to tender for the development and delivery of a programme of Masterclasses

Invitation to tender for the development and delivery of a programme of Masterclasses, aimed at charities and social enterprises funded by the Virgin Money Foundation.

Executive summary

The Virgin Money Foundation is inviting tenders from parties interested in developing and delivering its 2021 Masterclass programme.

The programme will offer attendees the opportunity to extend their skills and knowledge in key areas relevant to running an effective and resilient community organisation.

The programme will provide a menu of standalone learning opportunities that participants can elect to join. Each session will provide rich content, appropriate to a wide audience and draw on a diverse range of interesting and expert speakers. The successful organisation will design the content, be responsible for all logistics, secure guest speakers and host the series.

Launched in August 2015 The Virgin Money Foundation works in partnership with organisations which are committed to regenerating their area by investing in community activities that have a meaningful impact. Our ambition is to make a real and lasting difference in the places that need it most. We were set up by Virgin Money, who financially support the Foundation. Their staff offer skilled volunteering and high quality training to organisations we fund. The Foundation offers financial and non-financial support to community organisations. During 2020 over 400 organisation’s benefited from Masterclasses, training sessions or volunteers provided via the Foundation.

Key features of the programme

The Masterclass Programme will offer charitable organisations the opportunity to hear from charity leaders with diverse experiences, leaders from other sectors and subject matter experts on a range of subjects relevant to charity leadership. The programme will contribute to their development as a leader, the resilience of their organisations and deepen the impact they have on their local community. The programme will be delivered virtually.

The Masterclass Programme will be delivered by a third party with the demonstrated ability to deliver effective support to charity leaders and social entrepreneurs.

Subject matter experts within Virgin Money or the Virgin Money Foundation’s Board of Trustees are available to participate in the programme. The delivery organisation will need to work with these stakeholders to incorporate their contributions into the programme.

Areas of focus

The majority of organisations funded by the Foundation have a turnover of less than £5million. The Masterclass Programme should specifically aim to support medium size charities, but be accessible and beneficial to charities of all sizes.

The programme should consist of eight monthly masterclasses, covering topics such as:

  • Diversifying and growing income
  • Leadership and Management
  • Strategic planning and Reporting
  • Marketing: Telling your story
  • Digitisation
  • A life Beyond COVID: supporting communities

This list is indicative and is not intended to be exhaustive. Further information regarding the particular input sought by organisations we fund will be provided to the successful organisation to help in the planning of the sessions.

Measuring programme impact

The provider will be expected to provide attendees with a timely evaluation mechanism at the end of each Masterclass to measure success and impact. All evaluation content will be shared with the Foundation. A debrief will be scheduled with the provider after each masterclass to allow the opportunity to incorporate any feedback and learning into future sessions.
